Dress properly and take bows，Red dots open wisdom，Write character “Red” in red strokes，Play drums to show willingness. This traditional school entering ceremony brings you back to the ancient times and lead you to enjoy the traditional customs of enlightenment.

9月29日，蘇城外國語學(xué)校小學(xué)部邀請家長們一起為學(xué)生們舉行主題為“開筆啟智，蒙以養(yǎng)正”的開筆禮儀式，用滿滿的儀式感為孩子進行一次尊師崇禮的啟蒙教育，以此激勵孩子們珍惜讀書機會、勤奮學(xué)習(xí)，同時又通過這種特別的方式，傳承我國優(yōu)秀傳統(tǒng)文化、弘揚國學(xué)精神。

On September 29th, the primary school of Soochow Foreign Language School invited parents to together hold the First Writing Ceremony themed on "Enlightenment and Intelligence" with a full sense of ritual. It is regarded as an enlightening education for the students to learn to respect teachers, and cherish the opportunity to study diligently. Meanwhile, through this special way, Chinese excellent traditional culture and the spirit of Sinology can be inherited.

開筆發(fā)蒙以啟智，智慧之向在于正。總校長表示，此次開筆禮以莊重的禮儀來為新生啟蒙，一是希望同學(xué)們明白入學(xué)是人生中的一件大事，是開始學(xué)習(xí)、走向成才的起點；二是期待同學(xué)們在圣賢思想的感召下，在儒家文化的浸潤中，領(lǐng)略中華民族尊師孝親、崇德立志、勤奮學(xué)習(xí)的優(yōu)秀傳統(tǒng)文化精神。相信蘇城外國語學(xué)校一定能成為孩子們生命蓬勃發(fā)展的沃土，快樂成長的搖籃！

Holistic education begins at the First Writing Ceremony. The General Principal taught the students the purposes of holding the First Writing Ceremony with solemn ceremonies. Firstly, we hope that our students can understand that admission in school marks a milestone in life and also a starting point for learning and becoming a talented person. Secondly, we expect students to enjoy the excellent Chinese traditional culture of respecting teachers, parents, and studying diligently in the infiltration of Confucian culture and under the inspiration of sage thought. It’s believed that Soochow Foreign Language School will surely become a great platform for children's development and the cradle for their happy growth.

中國文化，兼容并蓄，文有孔孟之道，武有中華武術(shù)。看蘇城外學(xué)子們用功夫詮釋《中國少年》，詮釋千年武術(shù)之魂。

Chinese culture is inclusive. There are Confucius, Mencius and martial arts in China. The students in Soochow Foreign Language School presented the spirit of martial arts through the amazing performance Chinese Youth.

接著，一年級學(xué)生聲音清亮地吟誦《三字經(jīng)·弟子規(guī)》（節(jié)選），重溫孔孟之道，勸善勸學(xué)。

Next, students in Year One recited the Chinese Classics Sanzijing·Dizigui emotionally and energetically, helping us review the doctrine of Confucius and Mencius, which is about kindness and diligence.

Dress properly

童蒙之學(xué)，始于衣冠；先正衣冠，后明事理。首先齊誦《弟子規(guī)·謹·冠必正-下稱家》。

Learning begins with dressing up. If you can dress properly, you can be reasonable in the future. Students recited aloud the Chinese Classics Dizigui·Jin·Guanbizheng-Xiachenjia.

自正衣冠，互正衣冠，長輩正冠。

Dress properly by yourself. Help partners nearby dress properly. Elders help students dress properly.

禮拜圣賢

Bow to Saint Confucius.

一拜師長，啟迪智慧，誨人不倦，如父似母。

Bow to principals and teachers，Principals and teachers are enlightening, dedicated to educating and care for students like parents.

二拜父母，教我做人，育我成長，恩重如山。

Bow to parents,Parents teach children to be better men, nurture and treat them with selfless love.

三拜同學(xué)，歲月同窗，摯愛互助，友誼長青。

Bow to schoolmates,Schoolmate study together, help and love each other with everlasting friendship.

朱砂啟智

Red dots open the door of wisdom.

蘇城外的啟蒙師長用紅色的朱砂在學(xué)子們的額頭正中點上紅痣，稱為“開天眼”，寓意開啟智慧，從此眼明心亮，發(fā)奮讀書。

Principals and teachers in Soochow Foreign Language School gave red dots on pupil’s forehead, which is called “opening the wisdom eye”. It means to open the door of wisdom and study hard.

擊鼓明志

Play drums, show willingness.

總校長李春雷先生敲擊大鼓三聲，以示學(xué)生從今啟蒙，同學(xué)們伴隨著鼓聲，喊出自己最響亮的口號：終身學(xué)習(xí)，在明明德；懂得關(guān)愛，在于親民。全面發(fā)展，止于至善。

General Principal David Li drummed three times. Students spoke out vows loudly along: Lifelong learning enlightens morals. Good caring lies in getting close with others. Balanced development matters in achieving perfection.

孩子們以所學(xué)的禮儀向孕育、生育、養(yǎng)育、保育、教育自己的父母獻上自己最誠摯的感恩之心。

Students offered their sincerest gratitude to the parents who raise them up with the actions of thanks.

啟蒙描紅

Write Character “Ren” in red strokes.

古人云：人生聰明識字始，描紅筆畫簡單而意義深遠的大楷“人”字，寓意著在人生的啟蒙階段，學(xué)會做人是最為重要的。

Literacy is the first step of acquiring knowledge and culture. The simple and profound character of "person" written in red strokes means that the most important thing in the stage of enlightenment is trying to be a better man.

在小學(xué)部學(xué)生處沈榮主任的示范下，同學(xué)們把這個“人”字寫得穩(wěn)穩(wěn)當(dāng)當(dāng)、神采飛揚。

Under the guidance of Student Centre Director Jasmine Shen, students wrote the character beautifully and steadily.

把“人”字高高舉起，從此堂堂正正做人，穩(wěn)穩(wěn)當(dāng)當(dāng)做事。

Raised up the character “Ren”, learning to be upright and hard-working.

在這重要的時刻，家長別有用心的為孩子送上早已備好的禮物。

At this significant moment, parents gave children gifts prepared.

一個隆重的儀式，讓孩子把上學(xué)求知看成一個神圣的使命；一次文化的傳承，讓孩子把中華優(yōu)秀傳統(tǒng)文化漸漸融進骨子里。

A solemn ritual enables children to regard learning as a sacred mission, a meaningful culture inheritance and to embrace Chinese traditional culture in their lives.

開筆禮積淀著中華民族幾千年的古風(fēng)遺俗，希望通過今天的這場儀式，讓慢慢步入讀書生涯的孩子們沐浴儒學(xué)智慧，融入感恩立志、尊師重禮、愛國明孝的思想的同時，不斷陶治情操，增強認同感、使命感和自豪感。

The First Writing Ceremony reflects the ancient customs of Chinese culture. It is hoped that through this ceremony, the children who are gradually entering their life-long learning will be bathed in Confucian wisdom, and learn to be grateful and patriotic, thus to constantly strengthen the recognition of national identity, mission and pride.
